国际学生的拓展使当地学校大为不同

Rhoubeid教授学生法语是如何通过殖民主义被带到西非的，现在法语是世界上发展最快的五种语言之一. The students ask questions about camels, schooling, travel, languages, food and daily life in Niger, French-speaking West Africa, and about the Tuareg people of the Sahara.

The presentation is one among many. 

Throughout 2023, 俄亥俄州的国际学生通过向亚历山大当地学校的数百名学生展示他们的文化，将世界带到俄亥俄州东南部, Athens City Schools, Federal Hocking Local Schools, and Southern Local Schools in Meigs County.  

The presentations were given at events coordinated by the Ohio Valley International Council (OVIC)，社区参与和外展计划 Center for International Studies (CIS), 文理学院的一个学术部门，提供两个本科学位和六个研究生学位, as well as multiple certificates. OVIC促进文化和全球敏感性，并通过在K-12教室和其他专业环境中提供文化展示，帮助消除俄亥俄州东南部的刻板印象. 

40多年来，CIS一直支持OVIC项目.S. 美国教育部第六章国家资源中心的非洲和东南亚项目. Dr. Catherine Cutcher作为CIS的副主任领导这个项目. She has been involved in OVIC since 1997.

“对于国际学生和我们社区的学校来说，OVIC是互惠互利的," Cutcher said. “国际学生在学校体验美国文化，并扩大他们在当地社区的网络. 我们希望学生们对世界上不同的民族和文化有更广阔的视野.  The U.S. population is just five percent of the world's people."

When he visited Alexander High School in November, Dr. Rhoubeid was accompanied by Fulbright Scholar Dr. Adom Manu和三名加纳学生bismark Owusu, Ohemaa Ofori-Birikorang和Evans Opoku. They taught about Ghana, the Akan language, the AshantiEmpire, wedding traditions, music, dance, fashion, soccer, traditional herbal medicine and health care.   

加纳人还参加了退伍军人节大会，并进一步了解了美国的军事行动.S. Armed Forces and military veterans.

孩子们急切地走进大楼，每个人都拿到了护照. The flags of the world were draped around the room. 在每一张桌子上，孩子们在参与后都会获得那个国家的“邮票”(或贴纸). 史蒂文斯扫盲中心向孩子们和他们的家人分发了一箱箱的免费书籍. 

国际奥委会的文化项目不仅仅局限于演讲和博览会. 4月，来自印度尼西亚、马来西亚和泰国的三名富布赖特语言助教 performed shadow puppet theater of the Ramayana 联邦霍金当地学区埃姆斯维尔小学的100名幼儿园至三年级学生.  

On another occasion, three students from Indonesia -- Nadiah Abidin, Pembayun Pujiastuti, 和Ira Wardhani——在亚历山大高中介绍了17个国家的不同文化和地理,500 islands of the archipelago. They taught about Bahasa Indonesian language, 展示不同类型的蜡染面料和时尚, sang a song with the students, passed out coffee candies, 还拿麝香猫便便咖啡开玩笑——世界上最昂贵的咖啡.
