汉斯·K. 迈耶 started at newbb电子平台 in Fall 2009. He earned tenure 和 the title of associate professor in 2016. He became the associate director of undergraduate studies in fall 2020 和 became a full professor in Fall 2023.
His research focuses on what motivates citizen contributions to online news sites 和 the ways news organizations can meet these needs. This is just one part of an effort to find 和 encourage news organizations to create community among their readers, 在线和离线. He is also working toward a new definition of credibility for online media that incorporates the connection audiences feel toward the reporter 和 the site. He examines social media as a platform for connecting journalists 和 their audiences. He has embraced the impact of other new forms of technology on community building, such as 360-degree video, 虚拟现实, 和 YouTube-style personal experience vlogs.
随着 associate director of undergraduate studies, he oversees course scheduling, 课程开发, 学术顾问, course evaluation 和 diversity 和 inclusion efforts.
He is also the editor of two online peer-reviewed scholarly journals:

Before joining the academy, he worked for nearly 10 years in leadership roles at community newspapers, starting as the Mesquite, 内华达州. bureau chief for the St. 乔治,犹他州 光谱 和 working up to the general manager of the 6,000-daily-circulation 沙漠调度 在加州的巴斯托市. 作为一名记者, he saw the need to involve more citizens in the news process, 和 through his research, hopes to suggest how the Internet can re-establish a news organization’s position as information leaders 和 guides.
