The 历史 Department has M.A. 和Ph值.D. 程序s that offer graduate 学生 a chance to take courses and conduct research in many geographic areas and chronological periods and in a wide variety of fields. There is a strong sense of community in the department. 研究生 学生 have a chance to work closely with each other and with faculty members who have achieved national and international recognition for their scholarship.
Students 在历史上 graduate 程序s also benefit from excellent library resources. M.A. 程序, which has both thesis and non-thesis options, prepares 学生 either to continue their education at the doctoral level or to develop the skills in research, 分析, and communication that are valued in many types of professional employment. Ph值.D. 程序 trains 学生 for academic positions and for employment in government, 研究中心, and other nonacademic settings.
金融援助: Financial aid in the form of teaching assistantships and, in cooperation with the Contemporary 历史 Institute, fellowships are available to both M.A. 和Ph值.D. 学生. 参见财政援助.
International Diversity: The 学生 in the graduate 程序s are a diverse and talented group. There are usually about 35 graduate 学生 in residency at any one time. They come from many parts of the United States and from several other nations. During the past five years, 学生 from Canada, 智利, 中国, 丹麦, 德国, 乔治亚州, 印尼, 爱尔兰, 荷兰, and Russia have enrolled 在历史上 degree 程序s.
奖助金 & 奖项: Many 学生 have achieved significant recognition for their work. They have earned grants or awards from the Fulbright 程序, the Foreign Language and Area Studies 程序, 雅各布K. Javits Fellowship 程序, the Social Sciences and Humanities 研究 Council of Canada, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, the Society for Military 历史, 和杜鲁门号, 艾森豪威尔, 肯尼迪, 约翰逊, and Ford presidential libraries.
研究 Presentations: 研究生 学生 also have presented their research at meetings or conferences sponsored by the American Historical Association, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, the Center for Cold War Studies of the University of California, 圣芭芭拉分校, the German Historical Institute, and the Popular Culture Association.
